Companies Facebook vs. Google+
We have been asked to compare 2 companies with a social media
presence on Facebook and Google+. It was really hard to find
companies that actually post to their google+ account. I really think Google+
has untapped potential. For my 2 companies I choose Maurices and Wal-Mart.
Maurices
The one thing that stands out to me is that Maurices Facebook page
has comments and even some interaction whereas, the google+ page has none. The
ads aren't the exact same add but they are basically the same principal. They
of course are a clothing store and so all of their ads are cute clothes and a
deal or the cost of the item.
Wal-Mart
While Wal-Mart does have a Google+ page it is out of date by about
1 yr. The ads seem to run about the same and the comment section is a
great place if you need a good chuckle. Wal-Mart seems to have teams that
watch their pages and respond to problems and requests.
One thing I noticed on Wal-Mart Google+ page is that they
highlight an employee every so often. I think this is a great way to humanize Wal-Mart
and its employees. It shows people of all types work at Wal-Mart and they all
have a story to tell.
Unfortunately, I have found that both of my companies’ pages on
Google+ are out of date whereas, their Facebook presence is strong. I'm
wondering if Google+ came too late to the social media game. Before this class I
had not heard of it, and I don't plan on switching any time soon.
Awesome insight! I tend to agree with you. Here's a question though - Myspace preceded Facebook in the social media game. What did Facebook do to pull all the focus onto themselves, basically obliterating Myspace? It's not always who's FIRST right?
ReplyDeleteI think where fb started with the college crowd and it was started exclusive and branched out it made it the cool thing to do. Myspace was more high school cool in my opinion.
